Grooming
Chinchillas that are to be taken to a show to exhibit must be groomed to help them look their best. Grooming removes the old dead fur from the chinchilla. Grooming can take a lot of practice to get right and is always best to learn from an experienced exhibitor. From the shows we have attended we have watched others groom to try to pick up some tips. However the most valuable learning for us was visiting Kingdom Chinchillas and spend over an hour with Aileen and Dave showing us how they groomed their chins. Their are many different styles of combs available that are suitable for grooming chinchillas with. The combs all have very sharp needle like points on them to allow the comb to pass through the chinchillas thick fur. |

These are the combs we use, as you can see they have sharp points on them but we have used others that were extremely sharp and also had a different handle. We prefer the round handle and wider length of comb. We have provided some video footage of us grooming some of our chins. This is not to say it is the best or only way to do it but it is how we groom.
